You can run numbers on hands all day to play what would be considered mathematically correct, but there will always be a certain amount of luck in this game to make many players be superstitious with certain more mediocre hands to be lucky, or even stronger hands that may seem to have a higher likelihood to lose when they play them.  UTG Greg “Fish” Fishberg shoved all in for 274k, he was called by Bala Patur from the cutoff with about 950k in chips, followed by Alida Veliu in the BB with about 890k to start the hand.  Veliu announces she is checking blind prior to the flop.

Flop: 2♠7♦7♥ Patur checks back

Turn: 9♠ Veliu announces all in, Patur thinks for a few minutes, then finally folds, showing his A♥K♥.  Veliu shows her 2♣2♦, to a slightly shocked Patur, & questioning her call pre-flop.  Veliu very confidently shares that “deuces is my hand, I always hit a set with it.” Fish holds A♠8♣ and is drawing dead to Veliu’s set to make the A♦ on the river meaningless to his tournament life which ended in 36th place for $2188.
