Josh Weizer, Day 1A Level 13

Sometimes when you end up with a starting stack at this stage of Day 1, you are going to need to take some chances to establish yourself in the event. Josh Weizer did just that after getting it in pre-flop with K♣4♣ against 10♦10♥ and Q♣Q♦. Weizer had 42.4k to start the hand and he had all but secured the triple up after the flop came down 9♣5♣8♣. The turn and river brought no help for the significantly stronger hands allowing Weizer to chip-up to ~130k.

The regulars on the tournament circuit will take chances like this because making it to Day 2 play with a stack is a must. Weizer certainly fits that category by having $239k in career earnings with a couple of nice scores recently. He finished 6th in the Big Stax XIX 300 for $14,576 and followed that up with a 31st place finish in the Winter Poker Open Main Event at Borgata. His finish in the $3500 buy-in brought in $15,749 and got his year off to an excellent start.
